Competition Overview

At NHPS, the Shloka Recitation Competition is more than just a simple contest. It’s an immersive experience that introduces young minds to the profound spiritual wisdom embedded in ancient Indian verses. The school emphasises the importance of learning Shlokas, as they carry deep moral teachings and a sense of reverence for tradition. By participating in this competition, students not only gain the ability to memorise and recite verses but also develop an emotional and social connection to their cultural roots.

In the LKG category, children are encouraged to memorise and recite Shlokas in front of their classmates. This activity enhances their memorisation skills and builds confidence in public speaking. Reciting Shlokas also instills discipline and focus, qualities that will serve students well throughout their educational journey. Additionally, the connection to cultural heritage that comes with this activity is invaluable, helping students appreciate their traditions from a young age.

For the pre-primary students, the Shloka Recitation Competition is an annual event integrated into the school calendar. As part of their music classes, students learn and memorise Shlokas, which not only develop their recitation skills but also enhance their ability to concentrate and communicate effectively. The competition provides them with an opportunity to showcase what they have learnt, boosting their self-esteem and fostering a sense of accomplishment. NHPS encourages students to explore beyond the taught curriculum, motivating them to memorise new verses and engage in healthy competition. The guidance provided in music classes ensures that every child is well-prepared for the event.

The Shloka Recitation Competition is a platform where children can confidently step up and recite their chosen Shlokas, not only in front of their classmates but also in front of teachers and parents. It’s an event that helps build important life skills such as public speaking, memorisation, and cultural awareness.

Conclusion

The Shloka Recitation Competition at New Horizon Public School is an excellent example of how one of the best schools in Bangalore blends tradition with modern learning. By nurturing the young minds of tomorrow with spiritual wisdom, NHPS fosters well-rounded individuals who not only excel academically but also embrace their cultural heritage. Through such initiatives, NHPS ensures that students develop into confident, knowledgeable, and responsible citizens with a deep-rooted understanding of their traditions and values.

I’m a recent pass-out from this prestigious institution situated on the prime 100 Feet Road. I joined this school in the 2000s and grew here right from Nursery upto the 10th. My experience here has been unforgettable and I’ve made so many friends and created great memories over the years. Thank you for all the quality education given by the talented teachers and lab operators (We love you Wilson Sir!) . I sincerely hope that the flame of New Horizon keeps glowing as these years pass by, Chaitanya.
